Do you know what a Shmirshky is? I have to admit I didn’t. It almost sounded like a drink. In this case, Shmirshky is the name of a wonderful new book. Shmirshky – the pursuit of hormone happiness. It is quite simply a book that every female over the age of 35 should read. And if you are a man who is married to that female you should probably read it too. It is a journey about premenopause and menopause. It’s quite funny at times and it makes you laugh at something that is so hushed.
Men who are middle aged and beyond have awesome commercials with smiling guys waving to the crowd and women looking at them lovingly like they have found the greatest thing since sliced bread. But when women go through menopause its kind of the opposite effect like mood swings and hot flashes. There are so many jokes about that. Shmirshky is the first book that I have read that gives you real information about HRT and really what to look for. How to chart your symptoms and how to find a doctor for you. What works for some women may not work for you.
There is one part in there that if you are playing the hormone roulette like me sometimes you can totally relate too called the shmirshky jackpot. I won’t give it away but it will have you rolling on the ground with laughter.
The book is quick read – 170 or so pages but there are many key pages of reference that you will keep referring back to.
